Snapshots of the Past Wall Art, size L, Black, sku-13246961697, UPC 465183063998. This 16" x 20" historic print depicts Prof. W.A. Phelps at Pratt Inst. The company reproduces historical maps, photos and prints from Library of Congress archives. Founded in 2001, it says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints.

Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography, invented in 1796, made inexpensive mass production of poster prints possible.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural heritage. These reproductions use fine-art and archival paper and pigmented inks.

The company says prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks can last a lifetime and be passed down. Its examples of available subjects include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. The company suggests retro-style posters for homes, studies and workplaces or as gifts.
