Snapshots of the Past reproduces historical maps, photographs and prints from Library of Congress archives. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its customers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers.

It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008. Lithography was invented in 1796, making inexpensive mass-produced prints possible. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections on American cultural history.

The reproductions use archival paper and pigmented inks, which can last a lifetime and be passed down. The company's other print subjects include holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.
