This Snapshots of the Past Wall Art print shows the Petersburg, Va., courthouse. It measures 16" x 20" and is listed in Black, size L, as sku-13215401622, UPC 469471359350. The company restores historical maps, photographs and prints from Library of Congress archives and reproduces them on fine-art and archival paper with pigmented inks.

Founded in 2001, it says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. It reports buyers among over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of online customers, and says it was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, made inexpensive mass-produced prints possible.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989; that work laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural history. The company describes its archival prints as suitable for keeping or passing down.

Its range also includes old holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, offered for display at home or work or as gifts.
