The historic print measures 7 inches wide by 36 inches long. The company's reproductions draw on maps, photos and prints from the Library of Congress archives.

Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers. The company was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008.

Lithography, a printing method that helped make posters inexpensive to produce in large quantities, was invented in 1796. The Library of Congress launched its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections on American cultural history.

The company's prints use fine-art and archival paper, and prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks are intended to last for generations. Its range includes holiday posters and early aerial views of cities for display at home or work, or as gifts.
