Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, plus tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, enabled inexpensive mass production of prints.

The Library of Congress launched its American Memory pilot in 1989, laying the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections on American cultural history. The reproductions use fine-art and archival paper with pigmented inks, intended to last for generations.
