Snapshots of the Past makes reproductions of historical maps, photos, and prints restored from Library of Congress archives. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproductions.

Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of online customers; it was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography was invented in 1796 and helped make inexpensive mass-produced prints possible.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989, laying the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections on American cultural history. The reproductions use fine-art archival paper and pigmented inks.

The range also includes holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco for display at home or work or as gifts.
