Payo in the lead, dated 11/1/21, and measures 16" x 20". The company makes reproductions of historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives, using archival paper and pigmented inks intended to last for generations. Its reproductions include posters and early aerial views suited to display at home or work or to give as gifts. Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make mass-produced prints inexpensive. In 1989, the Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project; that work laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural history.
