It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography, a technique that made inexpensive mass-produced prints possible, was invented in 1796. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; the National Digital Library Program followed in 1995 to digitize selected collections concerning American cultural history.

These reproductions use archival paper and pigmented inks and draw on historical maps, photos and prints from the Library of Congress archives. The collection includes old holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.
