Snapshots of the Past Wall Art in Black, size L (sku-13456718883; UPC 466871829858). This 18 x 24 reproduction of "La veillesse d'un prince," painted by L. Rossi and engraved by Ed. Girardet, uses archival paper and pigmented inks intended to last a lifetime and be passed down. The company's reproductions are restored from Library of Congress archives.

Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past says it was the first company to sell Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008.

Lithography, invented in 1796, made inexpensive mass production of prints possible. The Library of Congress launched its American Memory pilot in 1989, laying the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections about American cultural heritage.

The company also offers historic maps, photographs and retro posters, including holiday images and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, for display at home, in a study or at work, or as gifts.
