Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproductions. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008.

The prints use archival paper and pigmented inks and are intended to last for generations. The source also discusses lithography, invented in 1796, and the Library of Congress American Memory pilot project of 1989, which laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program begun in 1995. That program digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural history.

The range includes historical maps, photographs, holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco for display or gifts.
