The company makes reproductions of historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives, using archival paper and pigmented inks intended to last for generations. Founded in 2001, it says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints.

Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers; it was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography was invented in 1796 and enabled inexpensive mass-produced prints.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989, laying the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural history. The company's retro prints are offered as decor or gifts, including holiday posters and early aerial city views.
