The company reproduces historical maps, photographs and prints restored from Library of Congress archives, using fine art and archival paper; archival paper and pigmented inks are intended to keep the prints suitable for display and passing down through generations. Founded in 2001, it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints.

Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, made inexpensive mass production of prints possible.

A Library of Congress pilot project called American Memory began in 1989 and laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural heritage.

The company's retro-style reproductions include holiday posters and early aerial views of cities such as Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco; they are intended for display at home or work and as gifts.
