The brand restores historical maps, photographs, and prints from Library of Congress archives and prints reproductions on archival paper with pigmented inks.

Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008.

Lithography, invented in 1796, made inexpensive mass-produced posters possible. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural history.

The brand also offers old holiday posters and early aerial views of cities as home, study, or workplace decor and gifts.
