The company restores historical maps, photos and prints from Library of Congress archives and produces reproductions on archival paper with pigmented inks, intended to last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. Founded in 2001, it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints.
Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography, invented in 1796, enabled inexpensive mass production of prints.
The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections emphasizing the complexity of American cultural heritage.
The company's range also includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters, early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, and other retro-style prints for homes, studies and workplaces or as gifts.
