Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Lithography, invented in 1796, allowed inexpensive mass production of posters. In 1989, the Library of Congress launched the American Memory pilot project, which laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program begun in 1995. That program digitizes selected Library collections emphasizing the complex history of American cultural heritage.

The reproductions use fine-art and archival papers from respected brands. Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks can last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. The range includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters, early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, and retro-style posters for the home, study or workplace.

They can also be given as gifts.
