Snapshots of the Past Wall Art L sku-13215551152 Print

Snapshots of the Past Wall Art in Black, size L (sku-13215551152; UPC 462725471112), reproduces an archival print captioned "Fiery San Antonio mayor testifies before House Judiciary Subcommittee," taken in Washington, D.C., on March 6. The print measures 16" x 20". The company restores historical maps, photographs and prints from Library of Congress archives.

Founded in 2001, it says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproductions. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for a White House redecoration project in 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make mass-produced prints inexpensive.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989; that project laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections on American cultural history. The reproductions use fine-art and archival paper and pigmented inks, intended to last for generations.

The range includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters, as well as early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, for display at home or work or to give as gifts.
