The company makes reproductions of historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives for home decor.

Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of Internet customers. The company was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008.

Printing techniques made inexpensive mass production of posters possible; lithography was invented in 1796. The Library of Congress launched its American Memory pilot project in 1989. That project laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected Library collections focused on the complex history of American cultural heritage.

The reproductions use fine-art and archival papers from established brands. Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks can last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. The range includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.

Retro-style posters can be displayed at home, in a study or at work, or given as gifts.
