The company offers restored reproductions of historical maps, photos and prints from Library of Congress archives for home decor. Founded in 2001, it says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers and tens of thousands of online customers.
It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography, a technique that enabled inexpensive mass-produced posters, was invented in 1796. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989; that project laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections emphasizing the complexity of American cultural heritage.
The company's reproductions use archival fine-art paper and pigmented inks, intended to last a lifetime and be passed down. Its examples of home, study and workplace decor or gifts include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco; it also offers retro-style posters.
