Snapshots of the Past Wall Art L Black sku-13238066787

Snapshots of the Past Wall Art in Black, size L, is a 16 x 20 reproduction print (sku-13238066787; UPC 465105913448). The image combines 6 contact photoprints of Frances Benjamin Johnston in her office: 4 show her holding a glass negative, and 2 show her holding a camera. The company restores historical images from the Library of Congress archives.

Founded in 2001, it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of Internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography was invented in 1796, allowing prints to be mass-produced at lower cost.

In 1989, the Library of Congress began the American Memory pilot project, which laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program launched in 1995. That program digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural heritage. The reproduction is made with archival paper and pigmented inks, intended to last for generations.
