No rating yet(0 ratings)Snapshots of the Past Black Wall Art, size L, SKU sku-13242668611, UPC 469811539442. This 16 x 20 historic print concerns a Columbia professor's endorsement of the Thomas Amendment in Washington, D.C., on May 8; the source title identifies him only as Dr. James T. The company's reproductions include historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives.
Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008.
Lithography, a printing technique that made inexpensive mass-produced posters possible, was invented in 1796. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural history.
The reproductions use fine-art and archival paper; prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks are intended to last for generations. The collection also includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.
