Snapshots of the Past makes reproductions of historical maps, photographs and prints restored from Library of Congress archives. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of online customers.

It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008. The prints use fine-art and archival paper and pigmented inks, materials intended to last for generations. Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make inexpensive, mass-produced prints possible.

In 1989, the Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project, which laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program launched in 1995. That program digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural heritage.

The company's historical prints include holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco; they can be displayed at home or at work or given as gifts.
