Snapshots of the Past restores historical maps, photos and prints from Library of Congress archives as reproductions on archival paper with pigmented inks, made for long-term display and passing down. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints.

Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers and tens of thousands of online customers. It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make mass-produced prints inexpensive.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989; that project laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 to digitize selected collections focused on American cultural heritage.

The company's range also includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters, and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, for display at home or work or as gifts.
