The company makes reproductions of historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives for home decor. Founded in 2001, it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, was one of the printing techniques that made inexpensive mass production of posters possible. In 1989, the Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project, which laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program launched in 1995. That program digitizes selected Library collections emphasizing the complex history of American cultural heritage. The reproductions use fine-art and archival paper from respected brands. Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks can last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. Other available subjects include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. Retro-style posters can be displayed at home, in a study or at work, or given as gifts.
