Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the 2008 White House redecoration project. Its reproductions draw on historical maps, photos and prints from Library of Congress archives. Lithography, a printing technique that made inexpensive mass-produced posters possible, was invented in 1796.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; that work laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections about American cultural history. The prints use fine-art and archival paper; archival paper and pigmented inks can help prints last a lifetime and be passed down.

The collection includes holiday posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco for display at home or work, or as gifts.
