Snapshots of the Past makes reproductions of historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives, using archival paper and pigmented inks intended to last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. Founded in 2001, the company says it was the first to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints.

Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. The listing discusses lithography, invented in 1796, as a technique that enabled inexpensive mass production of prints.

It also notes that the Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989, laying the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 to digitize selected collections emphasizing the complexity of American cultural heritage.

The company's other suggested prints include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. It suggests displaying retro-style posters at home, in a study or at work, or giving them as gifts.
