Snapshots of the Past reproduces historical maps, photos and prints restored from Library of Congress archives.

Founded in 2001, the company was the first to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project in 2008.

Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make inexpensive mass-produced posters possible. The Library of Congress launched its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections focused on American cultural heritage. The prints use fine-art and archival papers.

Archival paper and pigmented inks help prints last for generations. The collection also includes holiday posters and early aerial views of cities such as Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.
