The company reproduces historical maps, photos and prints restored from the Library of Congress archives using fine-art and archival paper brands.

Prints made with archival paper and pigmented inks are intended to last a lifetime and be passed down through generations. Founded in 2001, Snapshots of the Past says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, as well as tens of thousands of internet customers.

It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography, invented in 1796, helped make inexpensive mass-produced poster prints possible. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the foundation for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural history.

The company's reproductions also include old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. They can be displayed at home, in a study or at work, or given as gifts.
