The company restores historical maps, photos, and prints from Library of Congress archives and uses archival paper and pigmented inks for its reproductions.

Founded in 2001, it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers have included over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of internet customers. It was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008. Lithography was invented in 1796 and enabled inexpensive mass printing.

The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot in 1989; the National Digital Library Program followed in 1995 to digitize selected collections about American cultural history. The brand also offers vintage posters, including Halloween, Mother's Day, and Valentine's Day designs, and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco.
