James Abraham Garfield, K.T. 14 A. & A.S.R., late president of the U.S.A.; the listed dimensions are 17-7/8" x 21-7/8". Snapshots of the Past makes reproductions of historical maps, photographs and prints restored from Library of Congress archives.

Founded in 2001, it says it was the first company to offer Library of Congress images as museum-quality fine-art reproduction prints. Its buyers include over 200 bookstores and other retailers, along with tens of thousands of online customers. The company was selected as a vendor for the White House redecoration project of 2008.

Lithography, invented in 1796, enabled inexpensive mass production of posters. The Library of Congress began its American Memory pilot project in 1989; it laid the groundwork for the National Digital Library Program, which began in 1995 and digitizes selected collections concerning American cultural heritage.

These reproductions use fine-art and archival papers and pigmented inks intended to last a lifetime and be passed down. The collection also includes old Halloween, Mother's Day and Valentine's Day posters and early aerial views of Manhattan, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, offered as decor for homes, studies and workplaces or as gifts.
