Straight and Narrow Japanese Holly is a tidy columnar evergreen shrub with an exceedingly narrow upright habit and small shiny dark green leaves that don't splay with age. Straight and Narrow is a male variety that can be used to pollinate other Hollies. Best planted in moist, slightly acidic well-drained soils. Hollies are dioecious and need both male and female plants to produce fruit. Grows 6' - 8' tall and 2' - 3' wide. Prefers full sun to part sun. Blooms white. Maintains year-round interest. Low maintenance, but may have issues with mites, scale, leaf spot, rot, and mildew. Susceptible to leaf scorch or drop if not protected from afternoon sun in hotter climates. Can be used for accents, group plantings, borders, woodland gardens, wildlife gardens, privacy screens, foundation plantings, hedges, and containers. Companion plants include Azalea, Astilbe, and Barberry.
