Extreme Networks 5520 24-port SFP+ Switch — Dual‑Persona (ExtremeXOS / VOSS)
Overview: The Extreme Networks 5520 is a 24-port SFP+ switch built on a universal hardware platform with dual‑persona capability, giving administrators the option to run either the ExtremeXOS or the VSP Operating System (VOSS) persona. The chosen persona can be set at start-up and swapped later as needs change; once selected, the 5520 provides the full feature set of that OS. Ethernet fabric and automation: Depending on the active persona, the 5520 supports different Ethernet fabric services — including Extreme’s Fabric Connect when running VOSS and Extreme’s IP Fabric when running ExtremeXOS. The switch also supports Fabric Attach to automate attachment to either Layer 2 or Layer 3 fabric services. These fabric technologies enable virtualized networks that streamline provisioning, improve security and reduce operational burden on networking and IT teams. Extended Edge Switching: When operating with EXOS, the 5520 can act as the controlling bridge in an Extended Edge Switching deployment. In that role it pairs with Extreme’s V300 and V400 Series access devices to form a single logical switch architecture, simplifying management and lowering overall costs. High-performance stacking: For environments requiring stacked systems, the 5520 supports high‑speed 160Gb stacking under ExtremeXOS using its two built‑in QSFP28 ports. Up to eight systems can be stacked together using qualified QSFP+ direct attach cables and optical transceivers.
