It is suited to Central and Northern Florida and is the most common home lawn grass in the Florida Panhandle. It grows slowly, stays low and has a medium texture and a lighter natural color than many lawn grasses. It needs less fertilizer than other Florida turfgrasses. Excess nitrogen used to force a dark green color can reduce cold tolerance and increase long-term maintenance problems; it is also believed to contribute to centipedegrass decline, which leaves patches of dead turf in spring. The grass grows in acidic, infertile soils at pH 4.5 to 6.5, has fair shade tolerance and survives drought by going dormant.
