Zhibin Zhang's Dictionary of the Ben cao gang mu, Volume 1: Chinese Historical Illness Terminology is a hardcover Dictionaries title, Edition 1, SKU sku-38188172. The Ben cao gang mu was compiled in the second half of the sixteenth century by a team led by physician Li Shizhen (1518–1593), using earlier books and contemporary knowledge.

It is the largest natural history encyclopedia in the Chinese materia medica tradition and describes almost 1,900 pharmaceutical natural and man-made substances, an apex of premodern Chinese pharmaceutical knowledge. The dictionary provides access to its 1,600,000 characters. This first book in a three-volume series analyzes 4,500 historical illness terms.
