The flowering lawn attracts pollinators and is said to reduce a property's carbon footprint. Once established, it needs less mowing and generally needs watering only during extended drought. With regular watering and soil temperatures of at least 50-60 degrees, seeds begin germinating in 1-2 weeks. Plants remain small for the first couple of months.

After the first growing season, flowers reach about 2-4 inches tall, depending on mowing, and bloom from late spring to early fall, providing pollen for pollinators. The seeds come from a small, family-owned U.S. business that provides education and seed donations to local communities.
