No rating yet(0 ratings)Council Tool 35MD26 is a Brown Hand Tools listing for a Dayton-pattern, single-bit miner's axe. SKU sku-801007745; UPC 008298203073. Its forged tool-steel head weighs 3.5 lbs, and it has a 26" straight American hickory handle. The 3.5-pound head has a hand-sharpened, tapered bit for cutting and splitting, red enamel on the body and clear lacquer on the cutting edges to deter rust.
The handle's eye section is dried below 10% moisture content to limit shrinkage. The head is hydraulically seated and secured with a serrated aluminum wedge; the tapered eye helps form the mechanical bond. Approximately 1/2" of handle length is removed during assembly. ANSI calls for bit hardness of Rc 45-60 at least 1/2 inch back from the edge.
Council Tool specifies Rc 48-55 and targets 1-1/4 inches from the edge. The cutting edge is approximately 4.75" long, and the poll is square. Made in USA.
