One of the earliest texts written in a Native American language, the sixty-two-page manuscript records the community's income and expenditures from 1550 to 1564 in parallel columns of Nahuatl writing and hand-painted images.
This English-language edition includes Terraciano's transcription, translation and analysis, drawing on archival sources to examine Texupan's silk industry, trade with China, epidemics and colonial policies.
