No rating yet(0 ratings)Chimalpahin's Conquest is a hardcover volume listed under Latin American History Books as Susan Schroeder sku-14558829. Francisco López de Gómara's account of Hernando Cortés's conquest of Mexico, Historia de las Indias y Conquista de México, was published in 1552 and was an immediate success.
Prince Philip of Spain banned La conquista from the Americas, but the seventeenth-century Nahua historian Chimalpahin obtained a copy. As he copied it, he rewrote large sections and added information about Emperor Moctezuma and other indigenous people involved in the first encounters.
The volume presents the first complete modern English translation of Gómara's La conquista alongside Chimalpahin's Nahua perspective on an account traditionally told from a Spanish perspective.
