HomeBrewCoffee.com™ Bali Blue Moon is a 2lbs. Whole Bean Coffee with a medium-dark roast. Cupping notes include baker's chocolate, orange peel, juniper and molasses, with a clean finish. It is grown at 1200-1600 MASL in volcanic loam in the Kintamani Highlands of Central Bali, Indonesia, and harvested from May to October. Varietals include Bourbon, S795 and USDA 762 Typica, and Catimor.

Producers are organized through Subak Abian (SA), a traditional upland Bali farmer organization. Small family-owned farms grow coffee alongside citrus trees near Mount Agung. Farmers sort the cherries, depulp them and ferment them overnight in their own micro-mills. After washing, the coffee dries on patios before its parchment is removed while still moist.

This wet-hulling process, called Giling Basah, exposes the beans as they finish drying and gives them their bluish color. The process also includes hand-picking and two-step sun drying on raised beds. Subak Abian refers to an ecological irrigation system developed more than 1,000 years ago by Hindu priests who practice Tri Hita Karana, a philosophy of harmony among the environment, humans and God.
