Crankcase pressure or corrosion can damage seals and cause oil leaks. Intake leaks can reduce engine power; poor vehicle sealing can affect warmth, dust protection, soundproofing and waterproofing. Fuel tank or pipe gaps can cause fuel leaks, while coolant leaks can trigger a high-temperature warning. EVAP leaks can release fuel vapor, waste fuel, pollute the air or cause unstable idling.

Exhaust leaks can release unpurified gases or increase noise. Before testing, connect an external air compressor; without an air supply, the unit may produce neither smoke nor air pressure. Follow the positive and negative markings on the power clips. Use a 12V DC supply, preferably a 12V car battery.

Add 10-20 ml of test oil at a time, preferably baby oil; reduce the amount if liquid sprays from the smoke hose. For leak detection: 1. Add 10ml-20ml of oil and disconnect the vehicle pipe to be tested. 2. Fit the quick connector to the pipe and connect an external air supply to the detector inlet. 3.

Connect the detector to a DC12V battery and turn on the smoke switch; smoke forms in about 5 seconds. 4. Fill the connected pipe with smoke to locate the leak.
