Apricorn ADT-3PL256-12TB Black Drive sku-224692561

The Black Apricorn Aegis Padlock DT, model ADT-3PL256-12TB, is a 12 TB external desktop hard drive in the Gaming Hard Drives category. It has a 3.5-inch drive, an 8 MB buffer and a solid aluminum enclosure that dissipates heat. Its hardware encryption uses 256-bit AES-XTS and a FIPS PUB 197 validated algorithm.

Data is encrypted in real time, even if the drive is removed from its enclosure; stored data, PINs and encryption keys remain encrypted at rest. Setup and operation require no software installation or administrator rights, and the drive can run on any platform. Its administrator feature supports up to five user IDs and one administrator for shared use.

USB 3.0 transfer speeds reach up to 10x those of USB 2.0; the drive also works with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports. Access requires a verified user PIN. After several incorrect attempts, the drive locks and must be plugged in again before another PIN can be entered, blocking automated attempts.

After a predetermined number of failed entries, it destroys the encryption key and locks, making the data unusable until the drive is reset and redeployed. You can set it to lock automatically after a chosen period unattended.

Its wear-resistant keypad helps conceal which keys are used, while Apricorn's Variable Time Circuit (VTC) is designed to counter timing attacks that study the drive's electronic behavior. Reduced power consumption gives it a lower operating temperature than standard desktop drives, with increased reliability and less noise. Listed as sku-224692561; UPC 708326914505.
