Adequan Canine injectable, 100-mg/ml, is FDA-approved for treatment of noninfectious degenerative and/or traumatic arthritis and joint dysfunction in dogs by intramuscular (IM) injection and in horses by IM or intra-articular (IA) injection. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to PSGAG and known or suspected bleeding disorders.

It should not replace other treatment when infection is suspected or present, or necessary surgical repair or joint immobilization. Use caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment. Adverse effects are unlikely after IM injection. IA use in horses may cause inflammation after injection; discontinue therapy if inflammation is excessive.
