No rating yet(0 ratings)This Perth Mint Gold coin, listed under Collectible Coins and Bullion as sku-18164023367 with UPC 469574505296, is the 2026 Australian Lunar Series III Year of the Horse release. It contains 2 oz of .9999 fine gold. PCGS encapsulated and graded it MS-70; its slab has an exclusive red label, and its FirstStrike designation means PCGS received it within the first 30 days after mint release.
The obverse shows Dan Thorne's effigy of King Charles III alongside the weight, fineness and denomination. The reverse, designed by Ing Ing Jong, shows a horse with raised hooves against mountains and grasslands. It includes the Chinese character for horse, the inscription "HORSE 2026" and the Perth Mint's "P" mint mark. The coin is backed by the Australian government.
The series changes its animal design each year according to the Chinese lunar calendar. Horse years cited for the series are 2026, 2014, 2002, 1990 and 1978, then every 12th preceding year; people born in those years are said to be charismatic, independent and adventurous. Perth Mint launched Lunar Series I in 1996; it ended in 2010, and Series II ended in 2019.
The series is made in silver, gold and platinum, and demand spread from Asia to Europe and America. Current stated mintage limits are 30,000 for the 1 oz gold coin, 5,000 for platinum coins and 300,000 worldwide for each Series III 1 oz silver bullion coin. The source describes annual 1 oz gold and silver releases as selling out and notes that limited mintages may affect collector premiums.
The lunar animals in the program are Mouse, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
