It contains 1/2 oz of .9999 fine silver, has a mintage limit of 200,000 and comes in a protective plastic capsule. The obverse shows Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, her reign dates of 1952-2022, the coin's date and face value, and its silver weight and purity.
The reverse has a colorized red dragon among clouds, a flaming pearl symbolizing good fortune, the Chinese character for dragon and the inscription "DRAGON 2024." The 2024 release carries the P125 mint mark for the Perth Mint's 125th anniversary. It is Australian legal tender backed by the Australian government.
APMEX is an authorized Perth Mint distributor and obtains its coins directly from the mint. Perth Mint's lunar coins depict animals from the Chinese calendar, with a new reverse design each year. People born in the dragon years 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976 and every 12th preceding year are said to be ambitious, successful and charismatic.
The mint produces its lunar series in silver, gold and platinum. Series I began in 1996 and ended in 2010; Series II ended in 2019. Demand for the series began in Asia and spread to Europe and America. Annual mintage limits can affect numismatic premiums. The 1 oz gold and silver lunar coins have sold out each year, and each 1 oz silver bullion coin in Series III is limited to 300,000 worldwide.
The series covers the Mouse, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. This item is listed as Collectible Coins and Bullion under sku-17834409694, UPC 450820870480.
