Compared with AGM batteries, the GEL construction has a slower self-discharge rate and holds its charge longer when idle. The batteries are described as maintaining steady output across temperature changes. Their thick, non-spillable gel paste reduces the chance of leaks, acid spills and fumes, while the gel electrolyte improves resistance to vibration and shock. The batteries also have improved discharge characteristics and an extended service life.
