It is based on the Flowing Hair Dollar and has no face value. Its obverse recreates Robert Scot's 1794 Liberty portrait, while the reverse shows an outstretched-wing eagle with the round's weight and purity.
The original Flowing Hair Dollar followed the Coinage Act of 1792 and was the first U.S. silver dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Its reverse showed an eagle within a wreath and the words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.' Minting equipment struggled to strike the large coins, leaving visible imperfections. The original was struck in 1794 and 1795; about 1,758 were struck in 1794.
