Cooper has made tires in the United States for almost 100 years and describes its prices as affordable. Founded in Akron, Ohio, in 1914 as M&M Manufacturing Company, it first made tire patches, cement and repair kits. In 1920, it acquired Giant Tire & Rubber Company, moved its headquarters to Findlay, Ohio, and began making tires.

During World War II, the company supplied tires to the Allied Forces and received the Army-Navy 'E' Award for its contribution. It became Cooper Tire & Rubber Company in 1946.
